Ernie Basic and his brother, Frank, were 50+ year members of the Bricklayers Union, Local 21. Frank and Ernie founded the company that bears their family name in 1949 near Chicago’s Midway Airport. Ernie and Frank began primarily as residential builders, specializing in brick two-flats and stone work. Together, the brothers helped build up the entire area and today almost all neighborhoods and suburban communities in south and southwest Chicagoland bear the mark of their work.
Connecting the past to the present and future of this well-known Chicago firm is co-founder Ernie Basic’s son, Brian. He continues his father’s legacy by working at Basic Brothers on a daily basis.
After decades of service, partners Ernie and Frank Basic turned over control of the company to son and nephew Brian Basic. Basic Brothers Inc. has now expanded to a newly renovated and expanded 7,500 square foot warehouse and office with an additional 20,000 square-foot outside storage facility.
The company is headed by Ernie’s son, Brian Basic, who brings many years of hands-on skills and managerial experience to the firm, ensuring Basic Brothers Inc. will continue to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of construction industry clients for many years to come.
Assisting Brian is his son, Michael, who started learning the ropes of the business when he was a young child by accompanying his grandpa on job site visits. Michael is still assisting his father with the business, making Basic Brothers a third generation company.
